The Scenic Rim is primed for strong and sustainable economic growth through a hands-on new investment attraction approach for the region.
The Scenic Rim Regional Council Investment Attraction Incentives Program, adopted at Council’s first meeting for the year on 20 January, will give the Scenic Rim a competitive edge and make it easier for business to thrive in the region.
Existing businesses and new investors will benefit from a case management approach by Council, which may include support ranging from concept meetings and pre-lodgement meetings through to assistance with development applications.
There will also be the potential to defer infrastructure charges, on a case-by-case basis.
Mayor Greg Christensen said it was about making it as easy as possible for new and existing businesses to thrive in the Scenic Rim.
“The bottom line is we want businesses to succeed in the Scenic Rim to create valuable jobs for our locals and secure our region’s prosperity into the future,” he said.
“To achieve this, we are moving into this new era of working more closely with businesses and investors from the get go, helping them navigate the Council processes to ensure a positive, efficient and transparent experience.”
Cr Christensen said Council would also work with eligible businesses to ease the pressure of infrastructure charges.
“Through our Infrastructure Charges Incentives Framework, a suite of infrastructure charges incentives will be available to eligible clients,” he said.
“These might include the deferral of infrastructure charges and other tailored assistance deemed appropriate by Council. There is no ‘on-size-fits-all’ approach, and Council will be working with businesses on a case-by-case basis.
“This will ensure we attract investment that will drive jobs and growth in the Scenic Rim and is consistent with our shared objectives in the Scenic Rim Community Plan 2011 – 2026.”
The Investment Attraction Incentive Program Policy and the Scenic Rim Investment Attraction Incentives Program – Infrastructure Charges Deferral Guideline will be released in early February 2020, once the overarching Scenic Rim Regional Prosperity Strategy 2020-2025 is adopted by Council.
Council encourages any businesses and investors wishing to find out more details on the Policy and Guideline to contact Council’s Regional Prosperity team on 07 5540 5111.
