Two Scenic Rim quarries are helping to lay the foundations for the future of tourism in south-east Queensland, supplying rock for the construction of Brisbane Airport’s new runway.
In a coup for the region, Neilsen’s Quarry is supplying aggregate for the runway’s concrete surface. Neighbouring facility, Bromelton Quarry, is supplying rock for the road base.
Neilsen’s Quarry CEO Mario Panuccio said the awarding of the two contracts recognised the world-class standard of Scenic Rim materials.
Construction of the new runway, which will provide a boost for local tourism, is expected to be completed in 2020.
Mayor Greg Christensen, Cr Michael Enright and Cr Virginia West visited Neilsen’s Quarry where they were joined by Neilsen’s Quarry CEO Mario Panuccio and Bromelton Quarry General Manager Blake Ardrey.
